While I can see lots of great legitimate uses for a product of this sort, it's focus on surveillance reminds me of the adage "throwing the baby out with the bath water." In this case, we potentially make a lot of people suffer from the unwanted actions of a few. Strictly my opinion, of course. What do you think?
If you are interested to know what Spector 360 is all about, read on...
The following is taken directly from the SpectorSoft web site:
"Spector 360 is SpectorSoft’s flagship solution for monitoring your employees company-wide.
Spector 360 records your employees’ web sites visited, emails sent and received, chats and instant messages, keystrokes typed, files transferred, documents printed and applications run. In addition, through a first of its kind surveillance-like camera recording tool, Spector 360 shows you in exact visual detail what an employee does every step of the way.
Spector 360 takes the recorded Internet and computer activities from each of your employees, feeds that information into a database and provides you with more than 50 built-in reports and unlimited customization to answer questions like:
- Which employees are spending the most time surfing web sites?
- Which employees chat the most?
- Who is sending the most emails with attachments?
- Who is arriving to work late and leaving early?
- What are my employees searching for on the Internet?"

To be fair and balanced, SpectorSoft is aware of the privacy issues related to the use of their product. Here is just one quote about this on from their web site:
"Informing your employees of the fact that you are monitoring, and demonstrating the comprehensive details recorded by the software, together serve as a strong deterrent for the kind of behavior you are trying to prevent."
Here is a graphic of what is monitored:
Since it's not the software but the way it's put to use by human beings that make it right or wrong, can you think of ways that this product can be put to good use? Is it OK to use for its intended purpose? If so, how?
